The Saudi Trademark Office has announced that they has started receiving electronic filing of new trademark applications.

As a must, the new filing system requires the following:

  1. Attachment of a colored PDF version of all PoA’s pages.
  2. Attachment of a JPEG format of the Trademark Logo with a 200 to 400 Mega Pixel clarity ( below 200 Me Pix leads to rejection).
  3. In case Prioirty is calimed, the priority certificate or document should be attached in a colored PDF format file with its Arabic Translation in a separate PDF format. Also, the original Priority document should precede the filing application.
  4. Strict abidiance and compliance with the new Saudi’s Classification of goods. (attached herewith).

New Regulations issued by the Council of Ministers in Palestinian National Authority

We would like to draw your attention that the Palestinian National Authority has issued amending Regulations to the Trademarks Regulations No. 1 of the year 1952 and to be read along with the same, in which Article 3 of the aforementioned Regulations has been amended, on 28 August 2012.

The Regulations modified the official fees stated in Article 3 of the Trademarks Regulations No. 1 of the year 1952, and which should be paid to the West Bank Trademarks Office for filing, publication, registration, renewal, recordal, oppositions and cancellation services, and effective as from 15 January 2013.

(SFDA): Announcement Organizing Acceptance of Registration of Generics in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), has issued a formal notification regarding Acceptance of Application for registration of generics for pharmaceutical products already having been granted Letters Patent in Saudi Arabia.

As per the notification, SFDA will not accept registration of a generic in Saudi Arabia, unless upon expiry of the term of patent protection of the original product.

The company applying for registration of a first generic for an original product already registered, has to furnish a letter from King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), the Saudi National Patent Office, and the GCC (Regional) Patent Office informing SFDA whether the original product is protected by a valid patent or not, and the date of expiry of term of protection thereof.
